Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged Vietnam and Cuba to seek more practical and effective cooperation to put the two countries’ economic, trade and investment links on par with their political ties.

The Party leader made the call at a meeting with newly-accredited Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz in Hanoi on January 13.

He said he hopes that the diplomat will contribute to consolidating and further promoting the traditional friendship, solidarity, mutual trust and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Despite geographical distance, Vietnam and Cuba always support each other in their struggles for national independence and development, Trong stressed, reiterating Vietnam’s consistent policy to back the Cuban people’s revolutionary cause and stand side by side with them in the fight for noble objectives and ideals of socialism.

While congratulating Cuba on its achievements during the update of its socio-economic development model, General Secretary Trong also expressed his delight at the increases in the two countries’ solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
