Hanoi (VNA) – The heads of representative Vietnamese agencies abroad for the 2016-2019 tenure should help bring home new, modern communications methods in service of the country’s external communications programmes.

Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Vo Van Thuong made the suggestion at a meeting between the Commission and the Steering Committee for External Information Service with the country’s representatives in Hanoi on June 21.

Thuong, who is a Politburo member and Party Secretary, said the representative Vietnamese agencies abroad serve as a bridge to bring Vietnam’s news to the world and vice versa, including coverage about the Party and State’s policies and guidelines, the country and its history, culture and people, as well as Vietnam’s stance on regional and global matters.

He asked the representatives to continue realising the Politburo’s Conclusion 16 on the strategy on external information development for 2011-2020, the government’s action programme on external information for 2013-2020, and a scheme on improving external information work of representative Vietnamese agencies abroad.

The officials were required to rally support of the authorities, media, businesses and Vietnamese nationals in their host countries and make forecasts on any developments involving Vietnam and put forward solutions to complex and sensitive cases.

He suggested them acquire the countries’ experience in the field.

Concluding his speech, Thuong expressed his belief that heads of representative Vietnamese agencies for 2016-2019 will successfully fulfill tasks assigned by the Party and State, contributing to national construction and defence in the new period.-VNA
