In recent years, Phan Thiet – Mui Ne beach in the southern central province of Binh Thuan has become the province’s most attractive destination for international tourists, especially Russian.

Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ngo Minh Chinh said that despite the lack of airports and seaports, the number of tourists from Russia and Russian-speaking countries to Binh Thuan province has still increased steadily since 2006.

The number of Russian visitors to Binh Thuan accounted for 30 percent of the total 190,000 Russian to Vietnam and 35 percent of the total foreign tourists to the province from the beginning of this year.

To tap the huge potential, the province has educated itself on the Russian market and sent many delegations of provincial leaders and travel agencies to promote Vietnamese tourism in Russia’s major cities.

Meanwhile, representatives from Russian tour operators and press agencies have also visited Binh Thuan province to survey this tourism market. The province has welcomed about 20 Russian travel agencies since early 2012.

The number of Russian tourists to Binh Thuan is expected to increase rapidly in the time to come, as many Russian airlines have recently opened direct flights to Vietnam.

In a bid to improve its image among foreign tourists, particularly Russians, in the coming time, Binh Thuan province will focus on training staff on the Russian language, revamp its transport infrastructure, increase the quality of services on offer, diversify tourism products and ensure environmental sanitation.-VNA
