Philippine President Benigno Aquino and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) leader Al Haj Murad Ebrahim have met in Japan to discuss on the peace process between the two sides.

The meeting took place on June 24 on the sidelines of a peace conference in Hiroshima to which both Aquino and Murad were guests, said the spokesperson of the Philippine President.

During the event, the two sides discussed the Bangsamoro bill, with the establishment of an autonomous Muslim region in southern Philippines .

Meanwhile, the MILF spokesperson said via the meeting, the front wanted to express concerns about the postponement of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), which was reached by the Government and the MILF last March.

It took nearly two decades for the Government and the MILF, the largest Muslim rebel group in the country, to reach a solution to end their four-decade clashes in the southern part of the country.

Since the 1970s, the MILF has conducted rebels to demand the establishment of an independent government in Mindanao and some other islands in the southern region.

The MILF rebels killed at least 120,000 people and made over 2 million others leave their homeland.-VNA
