Hanoi (VNA) – Storm Maring landed in the eastern part of the Philippines on September 12, flooding Manila and nearby provinces and causing landslides and flash floods that killed at least four people and left six others missing.

Two brothers aged 14 and 17 died when a landslide covered their home at the foot of a hill before dawn in Taytay town near Manila. Police also reported that a 12 year-old girl drowned while bathing in a river during the heavy downpour.

Most of the victims lived in impoverished and dangerous areas.

Storm Maring made landfall in Mauban town, eastern Philippines on early September 12 and moved northwest across the main island of Luzon and swept through Manila with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Relevant authorities ordered the evacuation of residents in landslide-prone localities of Laguna, Batangas and Quezon.
