A collection of photographs featuring Vietnamese landscapes is on display as part of an exhibition titled Dialogue with Geological Heritage at the Hanoi Opera House until July 24.

The collection is a compilation of entries to a photography competition organised by the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources and the Vietnam Artistic Photographers' Association (VAPA).

Ban Gioc Waterfall in the northern province of Cao Bang and Ma Pi Leng mountain pass and stone fences in the northern province of Ha Giang are just a couple of the geological wonders on display.

VAPA President Vu Quoc Khanh said: "Photographers help viewers better understand the concept of geological heritage through their photos. That is one of the remarkable features of this exhibition."

He added that the participants have a good knowledge of photography and creativity in handling colour and light for their photos.

The organising board on July 17 awarded first prize to Hoang Trung Thuy for his collection, Rock and Sea of Vietnam . Thuy, from HCM City , said he had spent seven years compiling his collection. "On account of my love for the sea and this realisation, I took photos from the northern beach of Do Son to the southernmost coastline of Ca Mau. Eight of those photos are on display at the exhibition," he said.

The exhibition takes place in the framework of the second Asia-Pacific Geoparks Networks Symposium, which attracted nearly 350 local and international representatives. They took part in several discussions on encouraging the public to participate in the development of geological parks and ways of popularising geological heritage and introducing new geological parks. /.
