The Prime Minister has approved master plans on developing tourism in the southeastern and southern central coastal regions until 2020 with a vision to 2030.

Accordingly, the southeastern region will become a motivation for tourism development with diversified and attractive products.

The region strives to welcome 30 million tourists in 2020 and 50 million arrivals in 2030, of which 12 million visitors will be foreigners.

It will pay attention to both domestic and international markets, with focus on Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, East Europe, and expansion to India, Turkey and the Middle East.

The southeastern region comprises Ho Chi Minh City, and Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces.

Meanwhile, the master plan for the southern central coastal region set a target of turning tourism into the region’s important economy in 2020 and its economic spearhead by 2030.

The region expects to serve around 25 million visitors, raking in 160 trillion VND (7.52 billion USD) in 2030. Of the total, the number foreigners will be 7.5 million. The sector will also generate jobs for 700,000 labourers.

It targets visitors from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Central Highlands provinces, as well as Northeast Asian markets, including Japan, the Republic of Korea and China.

The region includes Da Nang city, and Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

The Prime Minister has also signed a decision recognising Cua Lo in central Nghe An province a marine tourism urban area.-VNA
