Vietnam and Cambodia have a fine traditional, friendly and neighbourly relationship, developing strongly in all fields, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said.

He made the remark at a reception to the visiting Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Defence Ministry, General Neang Phat, in Hanoi on August 22.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Dung affirmed the high value attached to the close cooperation between the two armies at all levels.

The Prime Minister also expressed his hope that the two sides will cooperate more closely in personnel training, joint sea patrols and naval activities, as well as coordinate at regional forums, especially the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+), for peace, stability, cooperation and development throughout the region.

Dung said he hopes the Cambodian Government and army will continue helping Vietnam return the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers found in Cambodia .

General Neang Phat said his visit to Vietnam aims to further strengthen ties between the two armies, adding that he wants them to always cooperate and support each other, especially in military training, construction and development.

He affirmed that as an officer in charge of education of politics and thought in the Cambodian Royal Army, he will do his utmost to educate Cambodian military officers about the tradition, solidarity and friendship between Vietnamese and Cambodian armies.-VNA
