Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Education and Popularisation, has called on Brigade 144 – a subsidiary of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army - to partner with the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department and other forces in ensuring the absolute safety of all people during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Huynh, who is also Secretary of the Party Central Committee, made the appeal while paying a pre-Tet visit to the brigade on January 24, during which he praised the unit for fulfilling assigned tasks in training and protecting the country as well as its participating in major political activities of the Party and State.

Applauding the unit’s effort to ensure the material and spiritual lives of officers and soldiers, he said Brigade 144 has shown their readiness to serve the population in the festive time despite a range of difficulties.

Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Que, head of Brigade 144, said the unit’s Party Committee and commanders have implemented many measures to raise the knowledge and combat capacity of officers and soldiers.

The unit is always prepared during the Tet holiday, he said, adding that it is striving to bring a happy, healthy, safe and economical Tet for the officers and soldiers.

The same day, Huynh visited officers and soldiers of the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department.

At the meeting, he was briefed on the department’s performance in 2013 as well as key tasks set for the upcoming festive time and the whole of 2014 by Colonel Dao Vinh Thang, head of the department.

Bidding New Year wishes to the unit, Huynh voiced his appreciation of efforts made by its officers and soldiers in ensuring traffic safety, political stability and social order for the capital.

He shared his understanding of the daily difficulties faced by traffic police, especially during the Tet holiday - the longest and most important festive time in the year - and spoke highly of the Hanoi Police’s initiatives in their work.

Such initiatives and methods should be duplicated among traffic police nationwide, he said, calling on the unit to win the love and confidence of the people.

On the occasion, Huynh also visited musician Hoang Van, Professor Vu Trieu An, writer Le Minh and People’s Teacher and Professor Phan Thi Phi Phi.

He said the Party and State acknowledge and value the contributions of scientists, writers and artists to the Party’s cause and the country’s socio-economic and cultural development.

He expressed his wish that they will continue helping the country in scientific research and training young scientists.-VNA
