State President Nguyen Minh Triet has asked the court sector to continue to improve the quality of justice in 2011 and the following years, emphasising that court verdicts indicate the Party and State’s prestige.

The State President was speaking at the court sector’s meeting held in Hanoi on Jan. 5 with the aim of launching its operations for 2011.

“The sector needs to focus on training its personnel, both in and outside the country, to enhance their professional capacity and ethics,” Triet stressed.

He asked the sector to take a more active part in judicial reform and hasten the implementation of reform roadmap as required in the Politburo Resolution 49-NQ/TU.

The President also requested the judiciary to minimize and then put an end to wrongdoings during trials.

In 2010, the sector handled 91.4 percent of cases filed at courts at all levels.

The Supreme People’s Court, in particular, completed the mapping out of a project to set up regional people’s courts of first instance, provincial people’s courts, and high-level people’s courts.

It also successfully hosted the Asia-Pacific Chief Judges’ Meeting and a court conference of the Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian border provinces.

The entire court sector made efforts to boost its cooperation with its partners in the region and the world as well as international organisation in the year./.
