President Truong Tan Sang on May 3 extended a letter of condolences to the family of schoolboy Nguyen Van Nam, who died after saving five children from drowning.

In his letter, the President said he was very moved with Nguyen Van Nam’s brave sacrifice, stressing Nam has set an example for adolescents nationwide to follow.

With great regret, President Sang said he hopes Nam’s parents and relatives would overcome losses and be proud of him.

Nguyen Van Nam, a 12th grade student from the Do Luong 1 High School in Trung Son commune, Do Luong district, central Nghe An province.

In the afternoon of April 30, while going out, Nam heard someone in distress crying for help from Lam River nearby. Immediately, he ran to the site and saw the drowning youngsters.

Without hesitation, Nam dived into the river and brought the troubled children ashore one after another. However, after saving the last victim he was exhausted and sank in water.-VNA
