President Truong Tan Sang and Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin have recalled the days when Vietnam and Cambodia stood side by side in the fight against the Khmer Rouge and gaining victory over the most brutal genocidal regime in the history of mankind.

On November 4, President Sang met with the Cambodian legislative leader who is in Hanoi to attend a ceremony to mark the 35 th anniversary of the victory of the southwest border defence war and the joint victory of Vietnam and Cambodia over the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.

The State leader affirmed that the presence of the Cambodian leader at the ceremony, slated for January 5 in Hanoi , depicts the friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

He congratulated Cambodia on the success of its recent National Assembly election and praised the country for its socio-economic achievements over the past years.

President Sang also said that Cambodia has become a prosperous country with dynamic development and that Vietnam always stands ready to assist the country in its national construction.

Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin underscored that the Cambodian people always keep in their mind the great help of the Vietnamese people who rescued them from the genocidal disaster and assisted them in their national restoration and construction.

He spoke highly of the recent visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Hun Sen, saying that positive cooperation between the two countries, reflected in high-ranking visits, has brought about fine outcomes for both countries.

On the occasion of the New Year, the Cambodian National Assembly Chairman wished Vietnam more achievements and every success in its international integration under the leadership of the Party and State.-VNA
