President Truong Tan Sang on September 3 reiterated that the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the State of Vietnam consider education a top national policy and a strategic breakthrough on the path of national industrialisation and modernisation.

President Sang made the statement at Bui Thi Xuan High School in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province in the Central Highlands, where he beat the drum to kick-start the new academic year.

Addressing a ceremony, President Sang praised the endeavours and outstanding performance of the 61-year-old school, which is seen as one of the key schools in education reform in the city and Lam Dong province.

The school has nurtured many scientists, managers, officers, soldiers and good workers for the country, the President said.

He urged the school’s students and teachers to make all-out efforts in implementing education reform in a fundamental and comprehensive manner, which he said, is an urgent task in the renewal period.

The State leader asked Party committees at all levels, authorities, organisations and the whole of society to pay more attention to and build the best education environment for children.

The same day, To Huy Rua, Politburo member, Secretary of CPV Central Committee and Head of the CPVCC’s Commission for Organisation, joined students at Quang Xuong I Secondary School in Quang Xuong district, the central province of Thanh Hoa , to celebrate the beginning of the new school year.

The event also saw the attendance of Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan and local officials.

Addressing the event, To Huy Rua urged the school to focus on teaching foreign languages and information technology to students while improving the quality of teachers and education officials.

Also on September 3, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc beat the drum to kick-start the new school year at a college in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang.

The Deputy PM handed over the Prime Minister’s decision to rename Tuyen Quang College as Tan Trao University to the provincial leaders.-VNA
