Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said Vietnam always treasures and fosters the sound neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation with Cambodia.

He made the statement during his meeting with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in Phnom Penh on January 14.

The PM expressed his pleasure at visiting Cambodia on the occasion of the country’s commemoration of the 35 th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, which was declared on January 7, 1979.

He hailed the great achievements gained by Cambodian people under the leadership of the King in the cause of national construction for peace, stability and prosperity, affirming the country’s increasing role and position in the region and the world.

Praising the King for his important contributions to fostering and enhancing the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship, PM Dung said he hopes the King will continue his support to help the bilateral friendship and cooperation further develop in a strong, practical and effective manner.

He added the Vietnamese Government and people always remember and treasure Cambodia ’s valuable assistance to Vietnam in the cause of national construction and defence, as well as in the development of bilateral relations.

The King expressed his pleasure at new steps forward in the Vietnam-Cambodia comprehensive cooperation. He thanked PM Dung and Vietnamese leaders for their sentiments towards him and the Cambodian royal family.

He said he believes the working visit made by PM Dung to Cambodia will help promote the relationship between the two countries in a firmer manner in the coming time.

He also used this occasion to thank the Vietnamese State and people for their invaluable support to Cambodia .

In the afternoon of the same day, PM Dung and his entourage left Phnom Penh, successfully wrapping up the three-day working visit to Cambodia.-VNA
