Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will pay an official visit to Mongolia and attend the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit in Ulan Bator from July 13-16, at the invitation of Mongolian President Ts. Elbegdorj and Prime Minister J.Erdenebat.

Vietnam and Mongolia established diplomatic ties on November 17, 1954. Since then, their traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation have been maintained and developed in numerous fields.

In recent years, the two countries have maintained regular exchanges of high-level delegations.

In 1979, they set up their Inter-governmental Committee on Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which has to date organised 15 meetings. In the 15 th session, both agreed to cooperate in implementing projects on planting, continue negotiations on cattle feed production and construction of facilities for indoor vegetable cultivation in Mongolia.

In December 2012, the two sides exchanged diplomatic notes on the official recognition of their full economic market regulations.

Two-way trade reached 34.98 million USD in 2015, up from the 28.1 million USD the previous year. Vietnam mainly exports phones, fruit and vegetables, and consumer products to Mongolia, while importing metals and materials for the garment and footwear sectors from the East Asian nation.

Inconvenient transportation is hindering trade exchange between the two countries, as there is currently no direct air route connecting them.

Vietnam and Mongolia have also signed cooperation agreements on culture, education, and science and technology.

The Prime Minister’s official visit to Mongolia will be a chance for both countries to discuss major measures to boost their bilateral relations and maintain their political ties, as well as seeking appropriate ways to intensify their economic, agricultural, cultural and educational cooperation.-VNA
