A proposal to move all wiring and cable systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City underground will be discussed in the year’s first quarter, said Minister of Information and Communications Le Doan Hop.

The minister said that new construction sites would have underground infrastructure such as electrical and telecommunications wiring systems and water drainage systems built in advance, before work would begin on houses and buildings.

In existing areas where wiring systems are not currently underground, the project would be implemented street by street.

According to the proposal, the Ministry of Information and Communications would draft the project proposal. The Government would then be in charge of building a system of underground tubes. Finally, enterprises and sectors wanting to move their wiring systems underground would have to pay for the service.

“This will reduce the cost of moving everything underground for sectors by 15 to 20 percent,” said Hop.

With regard to expenditures for the project, Hop said that the ministry would propose using part of the Government’s stimulus package, as the initial investment would be quite large./.
