Quang Nam to have another Sao La reserve

This is the second Sao La conservation zone in Vietnam, after the first one located at the Bach Ma National Park in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
Tran Minh Hien, Director of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Vietnam said that this move represents the strong determination of the Vietnamese government and Quang Nam province in protecting this rare animal.
In Vietnam, Sao La was first discovered in the central province of Ha Tinh in 1992 and is now listed in the Vietnam Red Book of endangered species due to quick decrease in their population.
According to scientists, the number of Sao La in Vietnam and Laos ranges from tens to 100.
Since 2007, WWF has cooperated with scientists, Quang Nam officials and the local community in researching the Sao La population, threats for the species and planning priority zones for conservation./.
