The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh has become the first locality to complete its power grid for rural areas after two years of construction.

The information was announced at a conference to review a project designed to extend the national power grid to the province’s rural areas held by the provincial People’s Committee and the Northern Power Corporation on June 9.

Under the 370-billion VND (approximately 17.64 million USD) project, 178 transformer stations were built in the 2011-2012 period, bringing electricity to nearly 10,000 households in 12 districts, towns and cities in the province.

The completion of the two-year project helps create opportunities for economic development, improving the cultural and spiritual life of residents in remote areas and contributing to the successes of rural development programmes.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang requested the Northern Power Corporation and the Power Company of Quang Ninh province (PCQN) to continue cooperating with the province’s authorities to improve power quality in remote areas.-VNA
