Chairman of the Quang Ninh province People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long asked for the Government’s approval of a project to move locals from areas risky of landslides and floods during a working session with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on August 21.

He also suggested the Government allow the northern province to pilot a specific mechanism in travel management to welcome Chinese tourists through the Mong Cai International Border Gate, and re-establish the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism.

Long told the Government official that despite severe damages caused by the historic downpour in late July and early August, the local Party Committee, authorities and people have stayed united to address the flood consequences, and continue increasing growth quality, bettering the investment climate and attracting resources for development.

The construction on key projects has been accelerated, while attention has been paid to implementing social welfare and education policies, environmental protection and administrative reform, and maintaining social safety and order and defence security, he added.

Deputy PM Dam stressed the need for the province to carry out key projects related to transport to boost economic development and connectivity with other localities in the region.

As a major tourist destination of the country, it is necessary for Quang Ninh to design a management mechanism to both preserve and promote the value of its heritage sites.

He asked the province to pay social insurance in health check-ups and treatment on Saturdays and Sundays to make it more convenient for locals./.
