Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien earned a silver to add to her bronze at the Asian Swimming Championships in Dubai on Nov. 19.

Vien, 16, finished the women's 200m backstroke event in a new national record time of 2min 13.47sec behind Bai Anqi, a Chinese opponent who finished 2:11.38. Japan 's Marie Kamimura was third on 2:12.73.

She became the first Vietnamese to gain a world silver at the championships. Vien was third in the qualifier for the event and was the only Southeast Asian representative in the final.

On Nov.15, Vien took a bronze in the 400m medley and created two other national records.
In other events, male swimmers Tran Duy Khoi (100m backstroke) and Hoang Quy Phuoc (50m freestyle) failed to make the finals.

The championships will conclude at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex on Nov. 25.-VNA
