The eighth Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM-8) and the third Inter-Ministerial Meeting (IMM-3) of the Mekong sub-regional countries on fighting human trafficking will take place in Hanoi on Feb. 14-15 and Feb. 16, respectively.

SOM-8 will focus on reviewing and evaluating the Mekong sub-region’s cooperation on human trafficking prevention in the 2008- 2010 period and discussing plans for the 2012- 2013 term, as well as selecting prioritised activities for 2012.

The meeting will also discuss issues relating to increasing dialogues with other forums and the stability of the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative Against Trafficking (COMMIT) after 2013, along with evaluating the results of the 3 rd Youth Forum of member countries on fighting human trafficking.

IMM-3 participants will review the results of a plan to counter human trafficking in 2008- 2010 period, and approve the action plan for the next period of 2011- 2013.

A joint statement on anti-human trafficking will be signed during the meeting.

The Mekong Sub-region includes six member countries including Vietnam , Laos , Cambodia , China , Myanmar and Thailand . The group signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in anti-human trafficking in 2004./.
