The Border Guard High Command of central Quang Ngai province on June 1 put into operation a rescue station in Ly Son island district after more than five months of construction.

The station, the first of its kind in Quang Ngai and the central region, aims to support fishermen and contribute to protecting the country’s sovereignty over sea and islands, said Colonel Bui Phu Phu, Vice Commander of the Quang Ngai Border Guard High Command.

The Rescue Department under the Defence Ministry has decided to present a 450 tonne tugboat to the station.

Naval group 2 under the Quang Ngai Border Guard High Command is responsible for managing and the station and conducting rescue work.

As scheduled, the province will organise rescue exercise and provide training for relevant agencies to timely assist vessels which meet distress at sea.-VNA
