As many as 120 outstanding citizens of the resort city of Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong have been honoured at a ceremony to mark the 120th founding anniversary of the city.

The event on December 30 was part of Da Lat Culture and Tourism Week.

The honourees were businesspersons, scientists, religious dignitaries, civil servants, soldiers and students, among others, with excellent achievements.

Among them was Director of the Da Lat Urban Service Company Bui Trung Duong, who, together with his staff, has contributed to keeping the city clean and green and beautiful.

Vi Quoc Hiep, a painter of the Tay ethnic group, was named for his large number of works on Da Lat covering the 20 years he has spent here.

Truong Thanh Trung, from the Thang Long High School for the Gifted, was praised for winning a silver medal at a Mathematics Olympiad.

At the ceremony, attendees also had a chance to enjoy arts performances, a floral float parade, paintings and stamps featuring Da Lat from the past and today.

The fifth Da Lat Culture and Tourism Week opened on December 27 to praise the city for its beauty and hospitality.

A series of activities have been held during the week, including the fifth Da Lat Flower Festival, a ceremony to launch the 2014 Central Highlands-Da Lat National Tourism Year, and a festival to mark the 120th founding anniversary of Da Lat, which was built by the French in the late 19th century with French architecture and culture.

Art and music performance highlighting the diverse culture of ethnic groups living in the Central Highlands and an exhibition on the natural beauty and tourist attractions of Da Lat and the region were part of the event, which is expected to conclude on December 31.-VNA
