As many as 12,052 road accidents have occurred across the country so far this year, a year-on-year decrease of 14.77 percent, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

They claimed 4,163 lives, up 0.68 percent, and left 12,171 others injured, down 20.02 percent against the same period last year.

The rise in number of fatalities is attributable to particularly serious accidents, including those in Thua Thien-Hue, Binh Duong, Quang Ninh, Long An, Binh Thuan, Lao Cai and Kien Giang provinces.

There were 32 railway accidents in the reviewed period, killing 15 and injuring 20 people, while seven water transport accidents left five dead, according to the committee.-VNA
