HCM City (VNA) – The largest retailer Emart of the Repbulic of Korea (RoK) will open its first hypermarket in Vietnam on December 28 in Go Vap district in Ho Chi Minh City.

Go Vap is one of the most developed and densely populated areas in the city with good traffic links to the city centre, the company's general director in Vietnam, Choi Kwang Ho, told a press conference on December 24.

The 6,000sq.m hypermarket will sell foods, fast moving consumer goods, household utensils, electronics, and clothing from around 1,000 local suppliers and a wide range of Korean and Emart's own products.

Ho said, "95 percent of the goods on sale at Emart will be locally produced."

Emart Go Vap also comprises a food-entertainment complex as Emart wants to turn it into a "happy hypermarket" for Vietnamese consumers.

A kids' playground, a game centre, a bookstore, and restaurants are targeted at the young population, Ho added.

The 60 million USD store is situated on Phan Van Tri Street.

Also the day Emart, in co-operation with the Vietnam National Traffic Safety Committee, donated hundreds of helmets each to seven primary schools in Go Vap.

It plans to gift 50,000 quality helmets for primary-school students by 2020.

Emart is the largest retailer in the RoK with 160 stores. Founded in 1993 by department store franchise Shinsegae, Emart reported global sales of 13.2 billion USD last year.-VNA
