Reality and prospects for military technical cooperation was the main focus of the June 24 talks between Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu and Myanmar’s Commander-in-chief of Armed Forces Min Augung Hlayn.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence’s Press Department , Myanmar shows its interest in military technical cooperation with Russia , particularly in weaponry and training military specialists.

At present, Myanmar’s armed forces are using Russia’s 30 MiG-29 and 11 Mi-24 aircraft and 30 Mi-17 helicopters as well as its Pechora antiaircraft missile systems. Hundreds of Myanmar military officers and students are studying at Russian military schools.

As scheduled, Russian Navy ships will visit Myanmar at the end of this year.-vna
