Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrey G. Kovtun has reiterated his country’s priority policy of supporting Vietnam in building its first nuclear power plant in the central province of Ninh Thuan .

The Russian Ambassador made the remark at a working session on December 28 with provincial senior officials on bilateral collaboration on the implementation of the project.

The diplomat spoke highly of the province’s effort in collaborating and helping Russian consultants to carry out topographical and geological surveys for project planning and investment.

The Russian side and the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will work together to organise a visit to a nuclear power plant in Voronezh province in Russia, he said, expressing his hope that officials from Ninh Thuan would join the delegation to its sister province next year.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Do Huu Nghi asked the ambassador to urge the Russian parliament and Government to work with Electricity Vietnam (EVN) and the project management board to accelerate progress of the project.

He expressed his hope that Russia will assist Ninh Thuan more in training human resources as well as building infrastructure such as roads, schools, and social facilities in residential areas within the project’s area.-VNA
