The second Vovinam (Vietnamese martial arts) Championship – Ambassador Cup took place in the capital city Algiers on November 7, drawing the participation of over 500 artists from 22 provinces and cities in Algeria.

After two hours of competing, the National Security team became the champion, followed by the Olympic Bourouiba and Ouadsamar teams.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Vu The Hiep said that the tournament would help strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Vovinam is practiced with and without weapons. Based on the principle of between hard and soft, it includes the training of the body as well as the mind. It uses the force and reaction of opponent.

The Vietnamese martial arts were introduced in Algeria in 2001 and are now popular in the country with three organisations and 140 clubs which attract about 24,000 participants.-VNA
