Officials in the Red River Delta provinces gathered at a seminar in Ninh Binh province, discussing measures to call for domestic and foreign investment in the region.

At the November 29 event hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ninh Binh People’s Committee, participants agreed upon the orientation of developing the Red River Delta into a high-tech agriculture area from now to 2020.

To that end, local authorities should design appropriate policies which encourage domestic and foreign investors to pour capital into agriculture and rural areas of 11 provinces and cities in the delta, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam.

Localities in the delta should also apply science and technology into production, continue developing rural infrastructure, training high-quality human resources while preserving and developing traditional handicraft villages, Tam added.

In the first ten months this year, there were 288 newly-licensed projects worth a total of 2.5 billion USD, of which only 1.5 percent of the projects are on agriculture and rural areas.

At the seminar, local authorities signed a number of Memorandums of Understanding and granted investment certificates for some projects in the delta.-VNA
