The Vietnam-Australia Vision Support Programme (VAVSP) held a seminar in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau on July 17 to put forth orientations for the community-based eye care model.

The event was attended by representatives from VAVSP participating provinces, namely Ba Ria-Vung Tau and the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Quang Nam .

According to participants, three are nine eye care centres in the three provinces with 23 staff members. Most of them are well equipped to serve eye care and check-ups. However, few patients come to these clinics.

Therefore, VAVSP representatives recommended ensuring convenient conditions for patients, especially those with disabilities, to go to the eye care centres and carrying out check-up activities at schools and public places where more people can access the services.

The centres should provide high-quality and suitable services to people, especially the poor while strengthening information and promotion campaigns, they said.-VNA
