Vietnamese and Danish lawmakers have discussed the role of the media in legislative activities at a seminar in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

The December 17-18 event is the joint effort of the Vietnam National Assembly’s Office and the Danish Parliament’s Office.

In his opening remarks, Nguyen Hanh Phuc, head of the Vietnam NA Office, described press agencies as an important bridge bringing the legislature’s information to the public while reflecting people’s opinions and aspirations to lawmakers.

Not all voters have the chance to keep a close watch on legislative activities, he said, adding that the press are an effective means of transmission.

Phuc attributed the legislature’s successes to contributions made by press agencies, which have created a forum for the public to monitor the NA’s activities.

At the seminar, Vietnamese and Danish legislators also touched upon public relations work at the Vietnam NA Office and shared experience in working with the press.

Klaus Hoekkerup, a former Danish parliamentarian, underlined the need for NA deputies to cooperate with the press to carry political information to the public.-VNA
