Farmers and retailers are encouraged to adopt the Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) guidelines in efforts to promote organic farming and consumption of organic produce in Vietnam, said a seminar.

The seminar on the development of PGS, the fourth of its kind, was held in Hanoi on November 10 by the Vietnam Farmers’ Association in collaboration with the Agricultural Development Denmark Asia (ADDA) organisation.

ADDA experts introduced participants, including organic farmers, representatives of markets, shops, businesses, and goods distributors, to the benefits they can receive from participating in PGS.

In Vietnam, 141 farmers in nine provinces and cities have participated in the PGS development project that aims to produce purely organic products, ranging from vegetables to fruit and rice, for the market as part of endeavours to ensure food hygiene for consumers./.
