The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) jointly held a seminar in Hanoi on corporate social responsibility and the role of trade union.

The two-day seminar, which opened on Dec. 6 is part of the project “Raising trade union’s role to speed up the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Vietnam ”, which has been carried out by the DGB from 2008-2011.

The project’s coordinator Susanne Ludwig said the seminar is a key activitiy to boost friendship and solidarity between trade unions of Vietnam and other countries, as well as allow them to share experience in the field.

A report by the VGCL affirmed the implementation of SCR in Vietnam aims to ensure the harmony of benefits of enterprises and workers inline with national laws and international practice, build a healthy working environment, harmonious and progressive labour relations and enhance enterprises’ trademarks and competitiveness, thus ensuring enterprises’ sustainable development in international integration.

Participants are expected to discuss difficulties and challenges that Vietnam is facing in implementing CSR and propose measures for Vietnam to overcome those problems.

Over the past four years, ten international seminars were held under the project.

It also carried out surveys of working conditions at some establishments in Vietnam, conducted information campaigns on SCR and provided training for trade union cadres./.
