The proportions of economic sectors in HCM City have been changing in an expected direction in the 2011-2015 period, with services having a rising proportion in GDP and industry contributing less to the city’s economy, the Saigon Times Daily reported on June 3.

According to the HCM City government’s report, the proportion of the services sector accounted for 50.5 percent of the city’s GDP in 2005 but has risen to 59.6 percent this year.

Meanwhile, the proportion of industry has dropped from 48 percent in 2005 to 39.4 percent this year and that of agriculture has remained unchanged at 1 percent.

The State sector contributed 26.6 percent to the city’s economy in 2006-2010 but only 16.8 percent this year while the proportion of the private sector has increased from 50.6 percent to 58.2 percent.

Foreign investments in the city grew considerably in 2011-2015. Total fresh and additional capital in the period reached around 13.5 billion USD with 2,230 new projects and nearly 670 ones adjusted.

HCM City has some 5,330 valid FDI projects worth nearly 37 billion USD, with the property sector making up the biggest proportion of 36.7 percent (12.6 billion USD).-VNA
