All 12 foreign crew members aboard a Cambodian ship transporting 2,600 tonnes of rolled steel from China’s Huangpu to Ho Chi Minh City were rescued after their vessel sank off the coast of central Da Nang city on Nov. 3.

Earlier, on the night of Nov. 2, Da Nang city’s Border Guard Unit received an S.O.S. signal from the ship Lucky Dragon when a fire broke out on its engine deck while it was sheltering from tropical storm Mirinae in the waters off My Khe beach along Da Nang city’s coast.

The city responded to the emergency by immediately sending ship HQ952 to the scene to come to the aid of the ship in distress, even as rough seas threatened to thwart the rescue effort. Luckily, all the crew members, including eight Chinese and four Myanmar nationals, were saved before the ship sank about 100m from ashore.

The crew members have recovered and are all in good condition. At present, the city’s authorities are trying to contact the crew’s diplomatic representatives and the ship’s owner to resolve outstanding issues./.
