Singapore (VNA)Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) on September 23 confirmed that 16 pregnant women in the country have been infected with the Zika virus.

The ministry is keeping close watch on the infected pregnant women in order to provide timely consultation and support. It is also developing a plan to set up a national surveillance programme to monitor the development of babies born to pregnant women with Zika.

The annual number of microcephaly cases registered in Singapore ranged from five to 12 per 10,000 live births in the city-state country during 2011 to 2014.

As of September 23, there were 387 confirmed Zika cases in Singapore , according to data of the Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA).-VNA
