Singapore eyes the minimum fifth spot at the 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Myanmar from December 11-22.

According to Chef-de-mission Annabel Pennefather, Singapore’s best performance of 50 gold medals in 1993 put the country at fourth and the city-state varied between fifth and sixth since.

At the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia two years ago, Singapore finished fifth with 42 gold, 45 silver and 73 bronze medals.

More than 300 Singaporean athletes will compete across 25 out of total 33 sports, including 30 footballers, 24 swimmers and 20 sailors.

Singapore National Olympic Council member Tan Chuan-Jin said there will be a lot of build-up opportunities leading up to the 2015 SEA Games to be held in Singapore . “We want to make sure we fall in behind the team and cheer them on all the way,” he added.

The Singapore Southeast Asian Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC) announced recently that the 28th SEA Games will be held in Singapore from June 5-16, 2015.-VNA
