Singapore (VNA) – Singapore and Thailand should coordinate more closely to boost two-way trade and strengthen connectivity within the framework of the ASEAN Economic Community, said Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

The diplomat made the statement during his two-day visit to Thailand from March 28-29.

He suggested the two sides collaborate in issues related to the environment, agriculture and food security.

During his stay, the minister met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Economic and Foreign Affairs Somkid Jatusripitak.

Thailand is Singapore’s ninth biggest trade partner in 2015, with bilateral trade hitting 29.6 billion SGD (21.5 billion USD).

The Bank of Thailand ranks Singapore the second largest foreign investor and the biggest ASEAN investor in Thailand, mainly in the areas of finance, insurance services, manufacturing and trade.-VNA
