Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders from Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia sent messages to their nations on the occasion of the New Year 2016.

In his message, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said “Our goal for 2016 remains a safer, more prosperous and more equal society”.

He added that the government will not hesitate to take tough, necessary and right decisions – even if they are not popular – to protect people from terrorism and ensure a bright future is the birthright of all Malaysian citizens.

“Strengthening the resilience of the economy, managing the impact of external vulnerabilities and safeguarding the interests of the people are the government’s priorities for 2016”, he noted.

On the outset of the New Year, Myanmar President U Thein Sein called on people to actively engage in the national construction and perform their civic duties.

In his message to the nation, the Myanmar leader expressed his belief that the year 2016 will create “golden” opportunities for the country in both politics and economy.

He urged the people to seize these opportunities to successfully complete the democratic reform to enable sustainable peace, guarantee freedom and equality for each citizen by law, and improve the quality of life.
