The Spanish embassy in Vietnam on Oct. 11 launched three new Spain-funded projects to enhance the capability of Vietnam’s key agencies in Hanoi.

In the 2011-2014 period, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs will receive 1.79 million EUR from the Spanish Government to promote gender equality in the country’s social welfare system.

The Women Development Centre of the Vietnam Women’s Association will get 690,000 EUR to implement a project named “the peaceful house” which is designed to assist women and children who are victims of human trafficking to reintegrate into the community.

The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will receive 215,000 EUR to carry out a project on forest protection and building related regulations.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Fernando Curcio said Spain wants to help Vietnam fulfil the United Nations Millennium Development Goals through enhancing capacity and institutions in hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Spain has granted more than 150 million EUR in official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam over the past five years./.
