The 2nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS) in Vientiane, Laos concluded on December 5. A statement was issued agreeing to promote sports in the region so as to unite ASEAN nations and their citizens.

In the statement, ASEAN countries agree to share their experience to establish an ASEAN football tournament, back the foundation of centres that support sports training, utilise community factors in developing sports, and create more space for sporting activities to foster regional sports.

During the one-day event, regional sports officials reviewed AMMS’s performance over the last two years and exchanged opinions to help ASEAN countries attain more achievements in the international arena.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai highlighted the country’s efforts in executing sports development policies and preparing for the 2016 Asian Beach Games and the 2019 Asian Games that it will host.

He also spoke highly of AMMS’s activities in the past and expressed his wish that in the upcoming events, officials will amend regulations to the Southeast Asian Games to improve sporting attainments by regional countries.-VNA
