What Vietnam had gained in 2010 was very impressive as they were the result of the spirit of unity and efforts by the entire party, people and army, State President Nguyen Minh Triet said.

He made the remark during his pre-Tet visit to officials and local people of Quan Thanh ward, Hanoi ’s central district of Ba Dinh on January 29.

Triet noted that the sectors and branches, while proud of the achievements, need to seriously address existing problems in management and instructions of socio-economic development to make the country grow sustainably.

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh visited officers and soldiers of the Command of the Navy force in the port city of Hai Phong .

Underscoring the importance of the sea to the country’s economic development and defence and security, PM Dung said the navy force needs to firmly defend the country’s sovereign water area and islands.

The navy also needs to take part in search and rescue activities as well as protecting Vietnamese fishermen and boats at sea and boost cooperation with their peers in other countries to create a peaceful and cooperative environment on sea, PM Dung said.

On the day, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong made a pre-Tet visit to officials of the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and the President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam met with 50 overseas Vietnamese who came home for Tet festival./.
