Vinh Long (VNA) – President Truong Tan Sang wished Vinh Long authorities and people more successes when visiting the Mekong Delta province on February 6 on the occasion of the approaching lunar New Year (Tet).

Appreciating the accomplishments achieved by the locality in the past year, the State leader asked the locality to pay more attention to Party building and well implement its agriculture restructuring programme.

He reminded the local authority that the current intensive and extensive integration will generate both opportunities and challenges and especially require higher competitiveness.

The province, therefore, needs to promptly follow and put the 12th National Party Congress’s resolution into reality, he said.

According to Secretary of the local Party Committee Tran Van Ron, the province has to date had 23 new-style rural communes. In 2015, its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increased 6.8 percent, and per capita income reached 37.63 million VND (1,693 USD) per year.

On this occasion, the State leader also offered incense at the monuments dedicated to late President of the Ministers’ Council Pham Hung and late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet.

Earlier, he paid pre-Tet visits to Long An and Dong Thap provinces.-VNA
