The Southern Steel Company in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province marketed its 2 millionth tonne of steel ingot on August 13.

Company managers said their engineers and experts can now master modern technologies transferred by the Danieli contractor to produce high quality steel products to meet the market’s needs.

Five years after the first batch of steel was rolled out, the Southern Steel Company, earlier known as the Phu My Steel plant, is capable of producing 500,000 tonnes of steel ingot and 400,000 tonnes of rolled steel a year.

In the coming time, the company plans to pour more investment into raising its capacity to 700,000 tonnes of refined steel ingot and 500,000 tonnes of rolled steel a year.

According to the Vietnam Steel Association, the demand for steel during 2011 was set to reach around 6.5 million tonnes./.
