Tropical storm Nari landed on the central coastal Da Nang City and Quang Nam province at 6am on October 15, packing winds up to 102 km per hour, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The storm also brought heavy rains ranging from 80-150mm in the region, while some localities saw up to 373mm of rain (Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai province), 246mm (Nam Dong, Hue city) and 220mm (Tam Ky, Quang Nam province).

In the next 24 hours, the storm, the 11th to hit Vietnam this year, is forecast to move westward and weaken into a tropical low pressure, triggering torrential rains in many northern, central and Central Highland localities.

At the same time, a cold air mass is moving southward and is expected to affect the northern region within October 15.

Due to the storm, Vietnam’s national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, has cancelled many flights which departure from the central cities of Da Nang and Hue on October 14 and 15.-VNA
