Tay Ninh (VNA) – Agencies of the southern Tay Ninh province will move all wild monkeys living around the Cao Dai Great Temple to ensure safety for local people and visitors.

In the recent past, many local residents and visitors to the Cao Dai Holy See reported being bitten or injured by wild monkeys. The provincial Forest Management Department confirmed 13 such cases involving students and teachers from local schools as well as tourists.

From September 25 to 27, with the support of Wildlife At Risk organisation, the Forest Management Department captured seven wild monkeys and released them into Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park in Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province.

According to Tay Ninh’s Forest Management Department, the monkeys were originally kept by local households, who later abandoned them and stealthily released them into the forest around the Cao Dai Great Temple.

About 100 monkeys are living in the area. They have become violent because of food shortage and visitors’ interruption, the forest management agency said.-VNA
