Vietnam has invited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to become a partner in its plan to build a technological institute in Ho Chi Minh City .

To speed up this plan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan visited the Thailand-based AIT on April 18.

At a meeting with AIT President Said Irandoust, the HCM City vice chairman said that the opening of a technological university in Ho Chi Minh would meet the demand for human resource development of not only the southern economic hub but also the whole country.

For his part, the AIT leader applauded the HCM City authorities’ proposal and highly valued the Vietnamese government’s support for this plan.

“With the support of the Vietnamese government plus a strong partner in the private sector as well as a high-standard institute like AIT, now we have all necessary elements for the establishment of an AIT satellite in Vietnam ,” he stated.

According to an unofficial source, HCM City will zone off 22-25 ha in the city’s northwestern area for the institute./.
