Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has pledged the Thai government will do all it can to deal with challenges facing the country for the economy to recover by the end of 2009.

Addressing a conference in Bangkok on July 12, the PM admitted that since taking the office in December 2008, his cabinet has not achieved much due to a series of difficulties in politics, economy, tourism and export.

However, the economy has showed signs of improvement with growth possible by the year-end. The government will do its best to push the recovery through two stimulus packages worth 800 billion Baht, which have been ratified by the parliament, he said.

Thailand needs to diversify its economy and attract more investment to tap its potential and ensure sustainable development in the context of economic crisis, PM Abhisit said earlier./.
