The Thai government is encouraging the elderly who are still strong to work to supplement their living expenses.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthawong, the government is placing importance on the elderly as the aging population is growing.

In order to improve the livelihood of the elderly, Cho Heng Rice Vermicelli Factory Co., Ltd. has allowed and recruited people over their retirement age of 60 to continue to work.

It has also set an example for other manufacturers to follow suit. Many of these workers have years of experience under their belts and are skillful in their line of work.

The Foundation of Thai Gerontology Research and Development Institute’s Acting Secretary General Dr. Ladda Damrikarnlert said recruitment of older workforce is beneficial to both the elderly and the manufacturers. It will improve the mental well-being of the elderly and supplement their income.-VNA
