A Thai court sentenced 15 members of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), or the Red Shirts political movement, to 4 years in prison over inciting riots that sabotaged a regional conference in 2009.

According to the Bangkok Post, two leaders of the opposition organisation, Worachai Hemma and Arisman Pongruangrong, are among those accused.

In 2009, the group together with some 2,000 people disrupted an important ASEAN meeting in Pattaya to demand the then Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva to call an election as they believed he took up office illegitimately following the forced leaves of the two prime ministers they supported.-VNA
